The Quad Extruding 3D-Printer is a personal project that is still a work in progress. This project is a modification of a Creality CR-10S printer that allows it to print 4 different colors/materials simultaneously with little to no waste material.
The model for the hot-end of the printer consisted of the frame, extruders, fan mounts, air ducts, and auto bed leveler mount. The most complex part is the extruders. The design employs 2 nozzles to be driven by bowden tube extrusion and the other 2 to be driven by direct drive. I designed the direct drive using inspiration from existing systems but modified to drive 2 nozzles with no lost space between the extruders.
The hot-end modification itself came together rather nicely. all of the parts fit together well and each individual extruder worked as intended.
The most difficult part so far proved to be wiring as I have a limited experience in electrical engineering. I eventually got everything to work enough to proceed with testing. So far I can get 3 colors to print nicely but the 4th struggles to print. This project is still a work in progress so I am excited to get it working in the near future.
